My name is Meghan Huston I am a junior at Roger Williams University majoring in Graphic Design as well as minoring in business and marketing with a concentrating in international studies. I hope I can allow myself, my past and future aspirations to be outlined through this expression.

           The first thought I had following declaring graphic design, as a major was, “how lucky am I to do something I love and can enjoy forever”. Design to me is something that should be used to touch lives, create social impact, and to generate feeling.

            When I was a sophomore in high school after taking various art classes, graphic design was introduced to my school. I took the course in hopes to expand the portfolio in which I had begun to create over the prior years. Amongst taking the class I fell in love with graphic design and the process of computing something from pencil and paper to a unique modern abstract. As well as being an aspiring designer I was a nationally ranked synchronized swimmer, which without doubt follows its own unique art. I believe the combination of both passions and personality grew my love to chase a unconventional path. I pursed graphic design into college and now I am able to move forward with this passion as a major, carrying over, into a life long career. Amongst attending college my drive to be inspired grew and I grew hungry for more knowledge. I took on the ultimate adventure and extended my studies to Florence, Italy in hopes to opening my mind to the creative elements that flourish in the rest of the world. This mission was successful and I have returned more eager to achieve and grow as a designer.

            Outside of learning the most valuable lessons about design in the classroom, I have been able to implement these fundamentals into my own visionary. Outside of the classroom I have taken what I like to think my studies to another level in various projects. I have created social action posters, album covers, App designs, Major League Baseballs minor league advertisements, clothing design, and of course my own designs. Designers such as Stephan Stagmeister, Paula Scher, Saul Bass and many other artists have inspired me in the work I have thus far created as well as helping me to flourish into my own style. However, I have much to learn, as always design in a constant learning and listening processes. I consider myself an evolving work and progress that will continue to flow with the advancements and history of design. I hope to be able to advance my current skill and use my individualism to work amongst even greater teams to voice the language of many other individuals.
